How do I get out of a 3-year U-verse contract with AT&T? I am in Rockford IL and AT&T TOTALLY DESTROYED my entire Christmas week! I work PT from home doing medical dictation on top of it. I called them - on hold, on hold. Finally got someone who said they would be there the next day, 12/24 - no show! Could not do last minute Christmas shopping waited 8 hours, NO SHOW! Plus whenever you call their customer service, they WASTE YOUR TIME and ASK THE SAME QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER! These problems have been going on ever since I went with them 1-1/2 years ago! They lie to you, their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing. With no internet service, I also have no phone service! I told them at least 50 TIMES I HAVE NO ALTERNATE PHONE OR CELL - and still, they keep asking me that! I end up being on their CHAT LINE on CHRISTMAS! Of course, no one answered on their regular customer service line. How nice THEY can enjoy Christmas day! So again, I have to REPEAT EVERYTHING on the CHAT line, one more time! From 12/23 until 12/27, I was on the phone with AT&T for HOURS in total! Since when my phone was working, I couldn't actually waste time on the internet working, could I? No, instead I had to talk to a bunch of fools at AT&T (after being on hold for much of the time) AND then HAVING TO REPEAT EVERYTHING! CHAT line promised someone would come FIRST THING FRIDAY a.m. Guess what - NO SHOW! Finally a very nice tech showed up before noon on Saturday. I did not "take it out him" but told him about my week; as it was by that point, I had already lost over $200 in not being able to work on my PT job! This tech personally is very discouraged and said he no longer feels like a service tech but an "AT&T apologist!" After 17 years, he is ready to quit! He himself checked out all wiring in my house which was FINE when in the past, the lazy techs that came here told me the problem was in my wiring. LIE! The tech on Saturday even climbed the telephone pole to check it out - then left to follow the internet cable over some 12,000 feet. Guess what? For their U-verse in this town, they obviously NEVER UPGRADED ANYTHING while touting their U-verse here. He told me it should be no more than 3,000 feet to the fiber cable - from my house to their cable, it is some 12,000 feet! Now at least, he got the service working without dropping BUT does everyone remember DIAL-UP INTERNET? That's how slow my internet is. I just sit here and watch, watch and watch that little blue ball going around in circles trying to connect. Why? BECAUSE AT&T LIED TO ME TO BEGIN WITH! My sister worked for Illinois Bell/AT&T for over 40 before retiring. Whatever happened to people at that company who actually knew what they were doing? I WANT OUT OF MY CONTRACT! My sister said to either contact the FCC or contact one of there television stations here to see if they can look into the issue. They charge an arm and a leg for this bogus service every month. Also the field tech that came here is ready to quit after 17 years. Do they have enough sense to "listen" to employees like him? I DOUBT IT! Let me tell you people, it is obviously about corporate greed and dishonesty on the part of the company. HELP!
